Aston Martin DBX Luxury SUV Enters Production In Wales

Aston Martin began assembling the DBX luxury SUV at its new UK production facility in St Athan, Wales, as the first out-of-range unit.

The history of the DBX stretches back to 2015, when Aston kicked off the development program, and physical testing started three years later, before the British marque presented it at the end of 2019. Now the next step will be to commence the deliveries, and they said that the first units will be shipped to customers all over the world starting later this month.

“I’m extremely proud of the Aston Martin team who have worked so hard to transform this ex-Ministry of Defense site into a world-class car manufacturing facility, to now be producing cars, it is testament to the resilience and fortitude of everyone at Aston Martin”, said interim COO Keith Stanton. “It is an honor to see the first DBX come off the line and my only regret is that everyone who works for this incredible brand can’t be here to witness it.”

Expanding the company’s portfolio and allowing them to tackle the luxury SUV segment for the first time, the DBX promises to offer the best of both worlds, acting as a comfortable GT and a decent off-roader wrapped in a package that starts at $189,900 in the United States, £158,000 ($198,630) in the United Kingdom and €193,500 ($218,694) in Germany.

The power is through a 4.0-liter twin-engine V8 engine from Mercedes-AMG that develops 542 hp (550 hp / 405 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. From rest to 62 mph (0-100 km/h), it takes 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 181 mph (291 km/h).
