Aston Martin’s Valkyrie AMR-LMH race car could upgrade its mufflers with a straight-tube setup for the festival in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, Racer has learned.
The Valkyrie AMR-LMH is moving forward in time for the 2025 motorsport season and is expected to be launched by Aston Martin in association with Heart of Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA SportsCar Championship, the new Aston Martin Thor team.
Racer reported on December 26 that an IMSA official, in a November test consultation at Daytona International Speedway, recommended to Heart of Racing team principal Ian James that they explore the option of using the Valkyrie AMR-LMH in the IMSA festival without the silencers necessary to compete in other regions.
This move would make the car sound much louder and more intense, creating a more exciting experience on the track. The car is powered by a Cosworth-built 6. 5-liter naturally aspirated V-12.
When asked by Racer whether he plans to follow through on the official’s idea, James said only, “I think our fans will be pleased.”
As the call suggests, the Valkyrie AMR-LMH has evolved to comply with the LMH rules, which makes it, along with cars built under the LMDh rules, eligible for the most sensitive categories of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship, the Hypercar. and GTP categories, respectively.
The Valkyrie AMR-LMH is a very different beast from the Valkyrie road vehicle, which ended production. It features a unique chassis, designed to be longer and wider than a road car chassis. It keeps the 6. 5-liter V12 off the road vehicle, but includes modifications to meet functionality balance standards and ensure durability for 24-hour racing. The mild hybrid formula of the road car has also been removed for the racing car.
