Aston Martin Racing has the first Formula 1 team to launch a true 2022 car with the unveiling of its AMR22.
Haas used renderings of its car in progression, while Red Bull unveiled a show car on Wednesday as groups continue to paint their next-generation designs, but Aston Martin delivered its actual car to its headquarters in Gaydon, UK. The AMR22 will run on track for the first time on Friday as part of a day of testing and filming at Silverstone.
In stark contrast to the first two launches, there were transparent responses and possible design options that can only be seen in the new Aston Martin, with the cooling blinds on top of the pontoons, a domain that allows the groups to get back up and running. the pontoons themselves also have narrow entrances, while there is a hole between the tip of the nose and the lower detail of the front wing.
Technical director Andy Green said this year’s big difference has led to an incredibly stressful offseason to expand such a new car.
“The 2022 regulations are unlike any previous one: a radical change in direction in both concept and application, probably the most significant update in chassis regulations ever implemented, with an incredibly small amount of transfer from 2021 to 2022,” says Vert. “As a direct result of this, last winter was certainly the most complicated we have ever experienced. But the new regulations come with new situations and demanding opportunities. “
“No one has all the answers to maximise the new regulations, so it’s about avoiding the dead ends of progression, and that was the key message for our design team. It’s a huge challenge, but everyone has been up to the task, and we’re motivated. to resolve the multiple doubts that have been raised and continue to raise the process of progression. All this within the framework of the new regulations on load caps and more restrictive aerodynamic restrictions of progression.
“The AMR22 we are seeing is our ‘first’ iteration under those new regulations. It will evolve particularly in the coming months as we use the cars for genuine and demanding situations involved. This, in turn, will shape the direction for 2023 and beyond.
