“Today’s incident involved officers from MDOC’s Fugitive Recovery Unit and local law enforcement attempting to apprehend a fugitive on parole, who opened fire and struck one of our unidentified vehicles,” Kyle Kaminski, MDOC’s public data officer, said via email.

Kaminski said the van was not carrying prisoners.

“This is a very serious scenario and we are pleased that our staff were not injured, but it is very delicate to give the impression that this is a prisoner transport vehicle, as there was recently a prisoner escape in Idaho related to an attack on a ship. body of workers to allow the escape in that state,” he said.
