As a component of the Prime Minister’s 2 billion pound program to encourage active travel, the government has arranged about 50,000 Fix Your Bike vouchers worth up to 50 euros to be used for popular maintenance and component replacement.
The website, fixyourbikevoucherscheme.est.org.uk, is scheduled to move online Tuesday night at 11:45 p.m.
However, initial efforts on the site only sent a “Error 404” message.
Then, those who applied for a coupon were told: “Due to excessive traffic volume, this resource has been temporarily suspended while we take steps on user performance. Check back later in the day.”
Cyclists turned to social media to express their sadness and the volume of court cases, so the hashtag #FixYourBikeVoucherScheme has become the number one trend on Twitter in the UK within 90 minutes of the site’s planned launch.
Vouchers are distributed through the Energy Saving Trust.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Maritime Transport (DfT) said Wednesday: “The online page of the Fix Your Bike coupon program was disconnected through the Energy Saving Trust this morning due to great interest.
“The coupons are gradually being distributed to reflect the capacity of the motorcycle repairers enrolled in the program and more will soon be obtained.”
Coupons were originally scheduled to be available in June, however, the DfT said last month that they would only be delivered once maintenance workshops handled the expected increase in demand.
The 2 billion pound investment, announced in February, also includes thousands of kilometres of new motorcycle lanes, cycling training, making electric motorcycles more available and creating the UK’s first emission-free shipping city.
Other measures include strengthening the road code, legal protections, extending truck protection standards, and collaborating with police and shops to combat bike theft.
On a stopover in Nottingham, Johnson said: “You can spend more and this is the most ambitious package of all time: it’s worth 2 billion pounds.”
“What we’re going to do is create thousands of miles of protected motorcycle lanes. In fact, I think protected motorcycle lanes are essential to give other people the confidence they need, to many other very brave or confident cyclists. . “
He added: “What I’m also going to see is more pictures for motorists to perceive that we’re all going to outsource the roads, outsource them to cyclists, so be respectful, be courteous.

Shadow cycling minister Kerry McCarthy said: “Conservative ministers have been delayed and have failed to seize the opportunity this crisis has created.
“While the investment is welcome, cyclists will rightly get involved about how long it will take to implement those plans.”
DfT figures show that there has been an increase in cycling after the coronavirus outbreak.
Compared to the day of the first week of March, the use of the bicycle almost doubled during the weekend of 18 and 19 July.
On Monday, July 20, the recent maximum day of the week for which it is known, showed that cycling at 146% of pre-blocking levels.
