An Electric Hummer Still a Possibility

Rumors of a revival of the Hummer logo with an electrical application style have resurfaced in normal periods for more than two or 3 years. They are back, which, of course, evokes the cliché “where there is smoke, there is fire”.

This time, a Reuters report states that an electric Hummer can eventually sign up for the ranks of SUVs and pickup trucks under the general motors flag, and even that it would be assembled at the company’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

The production time for the style is two years, according to the news agency.

In 2008, GM brought a concept called HX, which was intended for a potential rival of the Jeep Wrangler. This style never progressed further because the currency crisis that occurred soon after wreaked havoc on the industry and the concept of a new Hummer.

More recently, AM General, who sold Hummer’s call to GM, presented a military edition of the new Jeep Gladiator. At GM, a variant of Colorado harvesting is also in process.

Time will tell how serious this latest tidbit is, but there’s no question that for manufacturers, these are potentially very profitable avenues to pursue that will generate strong visibility to go with the profits.

As for an electric Hummer imaginable, the option is under attention at GM, but that style deserves to wait its turn. The first on the line would be an electric van, followed by an electric SUV under the Cadillac banner; are expected in 2021 and 2023 respectively. Any new Hummer, electric or otherwise, would only see the soft day after that.
