The new Dubbo Bridge is expected to particularly reduce traffic congestion similar to that of freight transport and other roads in the region, and the structure has reached a key milestone after the successful installation of all 89 piles.
The noise and impacts from the installation of the piles extended for more than a kilometer of the site, some piles exceeding 60 meters in length. Once they are all filled with concrete, the structure of the 660-meter bridge crossing can begin.
The task is already over budget by more than $40 million due to additional piling and earthmoving costs, and has been funded in the amount of $263. 2 million.
New South Wales Transport Director West Alistair Lunn explained why the project has already exploded.
“The original design of the bridge envisaged that each pile would be installed at an average intensity of 40 meters in the ground; however, following pile testing, it became apparent that the poor soil conditions at the site were not enough to help the bridge as designed,” explains Lunn.
“As a result, the piles had to be driven much deeper into the earth and in more powerful soil conditions to ensure good enough support. This adjustment required the piles to be approximately 50% longer than originally planned, extending them over about 20 meters. .
“This new piling work, along with increased earthwork costs, put significant pressure on the project budget, resulting in an additional investment of $43 million. “
The bridge is also expected to improve access to the River Macquarie in the area, especially in the event of flooding.
Lunn also reported on the existing prestige of the paintings and the next steps in the bridge’s structure.
“The team in charge is also installing 123 girders on most of the piers, which will shape the design of the bridge,” says Lunn.
“The final stages of the bridge component of the task will include pouring concrete to shape the bridge deck, installing parapets, streetlights and paving the road to make the bridge ready for traffic. “
“The new Dubbo Bridge will be a glorious legacy for future generations. »
