Most sloths at a top speed of 6 to 8 feet consist of minutes, but a two-fingered sloth in Costa Rica broke that beat in a recent lap of joy. As Jalopnik reports, the lazy woman edited 40 miles after sneaking into a truck’s engine compartment undetected.
The vehicle’s drivers saw that something was out of position when they stopped to check the engine and saw a lock of skin. They contacted Toucan Rescue Ranch, a wildlife rehabilitation center near San Jose, who knew the stowath as a sloth. Although he had been on board for more than an hour, the animal went unharmed on the road.
TrR animal carers have dubbed the sloth Lolos Angeles the Angels Trailera, or “Lolos angeles the Truck Driver”, after the 1983 Mexican action film of the same name. She was exhausted and competitive when she arrived at the center, but after giving her a nutrition of Pedialyte, wild leaves and steamed vegetables, the caregivers were able to repair it to make a full recovery. She sent back to the forest where she left after six days of rehab.
The same speed of laziness as angels is not a sign of the angels’ anguish, it’s a survival tactic. It’s been over a year since a chimney destroyed the iconic Notre Dame needle in April 2019, and we still haven’t decided on the full effect of the chimney on the environment. As the Smithsonian reports, evidence of contaminants resulting from the incident was discovered in a rare location: the hives of Paris.
A new exam published in the journal Environmental Science – Technology Letters explains that the hives at the windward notre Dame chimney contained honey with high levels of lead. When the cathedral’s roof and spich burned, 450 tons of lead melted in excessive heat, releasing harmful debris into the air. While the lead was obviously installed in the design itself, which makes it dangerous to reopen to the public even after its renewal, the remains to what extent the poisonous fabrics have spread beyond the site.
The sample that at least some of the lead controlled moving within a few miles of the church. But what the effects on homes and businesses in nearby Notre Dame, where environmental lead samples have exceeded protection rules 20 times in some places, are still unclear.
