Vallejo police arrested the driver of a stolen car who rammed a patrol car as he tried to flee earlier this week, police said.
On Monday, patrol officers spotted an Infiniti Q50 with a damaged sunroof in the parking lot of a business located in the 2200 block of Tennessee Street. Officers conducting a records check discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Richmond, prompting them to place their patrol vehicle next to the Q50 and turn on their hazard lights.
The driver of the Q50 then rammed the patrol car six times in a failed attempt to flee the scene, police said. The suspect also crashed the Q50 into a wall to escape before surrendering, police said.
Police who searched the vehicle reportedly discovered a loaded firearm without a serial number in the back seat. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of various crimes.
Police said a check of the suspect’s records revealed he had warrants out for his arrest: one for burglary in Solano County, another for trespassing in Marin County and a third for probation violation in Sonoma County.
The driver told police that he purchased the Q50 from an unknown user on Facebook and that the firearm arrived with the vehicle.
The suspect was transported to the county jail and the firearm was presented as evidence. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle and towed it away from the scene.
