A nuclear power plant assignment manager acquires skills in online training

Arkansas Nuclear One’s cooling tower, which many others have only noticed from Interstate 40, served as a backdrop when senior assignment manager Jordan Baumberger earned a framed degree for his Master of Science in operations control from the University from Australia.

This Entergy worker in Russellville for about 15 years received his graduate degree online last spring. The steamer was rising from the 450-foot-tall tower when Phil Jones, an instructor in the College of Engineering, presented Baumberger with his degree on the Razorbug Graduation Tour. The presentation took place on June 18 at the Entergy facility on the shores of Lake Dardanelle. Arkansas Nuclear One supplies electric power to 730,000 consumers in 63 Arkansas counties. Two reactors at the Pope County site began operation in 1974 and 1980.

Baumberger said the flexibility of a 100 percent online program is key to allowing you to pursue your career goals, especially when you’ve become a parent of two young children.

“Fortunately, they go to bed quite early, so at 8 a. m. It was my time to work on my cakes and nap on the weekend,” she says. “My spouse has a master’s degree and was really satisfied that I was doing my graduate studies. He understood what it meant to achieve it. “

Baumberger earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta in 2009 and studied painting for Entergy. She originally enrolled in the College of Engineering’s online Graduate Certificate in Project Management in 2018 because she was looking to make a change in her career. She used the hours she spent on the Graduate Certificate in Project Management to meet classroom educational needs and earn a professional certification in task control from the Project Management Institute, a foreign accrediting body. He was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2020 with the PMP. University of Alberta certificate and certificate in hand.

Several University of Alberta schools offer online graduate certificates and microcredentials for Americans who need to graduate in less time than it takes to graduate. They are often needed by other people to qualify for a promotion or new position. Certificates can also be stacked and implemented into a master’s degree, adding the M. S. O. M.

Baumberger joined the ranks of other Arkansin staff members who have advanced their careers by earning graduate degrees presented online through the University of Alberta’s faculties of education, without quitting their jobs or uprooting their families. The University of Alberta offers more than 90 online degree, certificate and license programs. The M. S. O. M. has the highest enrollment of any graduate program presented through the University of Alberta.

“It’s a combination of business and engineering that addresses the skills you want in management, adding decision-making and threat management,” Baumberger said.

The 2024 Razorbug Diploma Tour, in its third year, travels across the state over the summer to celebrate the achievements of graduates of online degree programs. The Razorbug, a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle remodeled to look like a Razorback with hooves, a muzzle and curly hair. tail and a spine in the shape of a razor, loaned by the Admissions Office. Global Campus staff traveled more than 2,100 miles aboard the Bug across west, south, east, and central Arkansas to provide 16 degrees in 15 counties. Only two of the graduates received a bachelor’s degree. The rest consisted of master’s degrees and doctorates. In the 2023 educational year, the University of Alberta awarded 1,074 degrees and certificates online.
