There are almost as many reasons to come together as things to gather, but when it comes to cars and writing instruments, a variety of shared motivations, catalyzed by the unusual characteristics of the items themselves, make them extraordinary crosses for collectors.
For example, a pen, like a car, is a mechanical object that adds strength to the category of “men’s toys. ” Each provides more than a little intellectual stimulation for the user, thanks to the respective (and complex) product catalogs and the history of the brands of each user and offer the best touch of luxury for those who wish it.
Pen brands know this and have collaborated with car brands to produce very attractive writing instruments, such as the Graf von Faber-Castell Limited Edition Barnato presented here.
Other corporations have also effectively presented car-themed pens: Montegrappa and others have created Ferrari pens over the years with the famous horse logo on the front and center, and Omas, at the time, produced a beautiful collection of maserati pens in limited edition Curiously, the car logo and corporate writing tool were born in Bologna Italy.
Today, value-conscious Ferrari enthusiasts can find themed pens on the Cross Century and Townsend lines, which are the result of a continuous partnership between Cross and Scuderia Ferrari. The pens are available in a variety of colors and finishes that will evoke their own sports car with each and every calligraphy.
Graf von Faber-Castell Bentley Barnato edition
Graf von Faber-Castell’s new Bentley Limited Edition Barnato, the latest addition to its Bentley pen collection, will pay homage to Woolf Barnato, one of the mythical “Bentley Boys”. This organization of wealthy British motorists led Bentley sports cars to victory in the 1920s.
Barnato has become best known in the 1930s blue train race, where he competed in his Bentley opposed to a high-speed exercise from Cannes to Calais and won. Barnato is also remembered for his 3 consecutive victories in 3 24 Hours of Le Mans: 1928, 1929 and 1930.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Blue Train Race, and Graf von Faber-Castell launches this limited edition in his honor. The pen has a laser metal frame of a deep “green race”. The canyon is decorated with guilloche in the well-known diamond trend on Bentley’s inner embellishment and grilles. The pen can be enjoyed in 3 versions: pen, roller and pen, each with chrome embellishments. The fountain pen is supplied with a metal tip, to have in medium, thin, additional thin and wide sizes.
You’ll notice the typical Bentley kneading near the hood crown, the Bentley “B” and a resemblance to Woolf Barnato’s signature on the feather frame. “Graf von Faber-Castell for Bentley” is inscribed on the hood.
The collection will be available in September 2020, and pens are limited in number to 1930 pieces in popularity during the year of the Blue Train Race. Each writing tool comes in a special green box decorated with Winged Bentley’s vintage “B” logo.
