A first look at the electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona

“Dodge probably wouldn’t sell electric cars! These are the words of Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge lopass, at Stellantis EV Day in July 2021. A little over a year later, Kuniskis unveiled the Dodge Charger Daytona Now we have a first look at the electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona that will go on sale this summer on R/T and Scat Pack flavors with more to come later.

The new Charger, as well as the Jeep Wagoneer S and Recon and Chrysler’s new electric crossover, are built on the new STLA Large architecture. This is the first new architecture for Dodge’s giant cars in 20 years and marks a major starting point for Stellantis. STLA Large is a flexible, multi-energy platform for giant cars and advertising vehicles, which can serve as an all-electric, internal combustion or even hybrid vehicle.

The Charger Daytona concept that Dodge unveiled in August 2022, a giant two-door coupe with a vague three-box silhouette that echoed the second-generation 1968 Charger, but wasn’t actually retro. Modern elements included the so-called R-Wing front end, which gave the nose a more traditional-looking profile while also offering a pass-through groove that reduces drag and creates some downforce forward. At the rear, the trunk-like shape extended to the rear window, creating an increase for a giant rear opening with plenty of flexible shipping space.

This design has hardly changed for production. Compared to the defunct LX deck loader, the new style is about 8 inches longer and about five inches wider. It’s even 1. 5 inches wider than the wide-body edition of the old style, making it a very giant car. The result is a difficult position that, taken in isolation, does not seem huge. But operators will definitely want to be careful when maneuvering this device in tight spaces.

While the previous Charger was only introduced as a four-door sedan, the new styling launches as a two-door coupe, just like previous generations of Chargers. However, the coupe market has been in decline for decades, making it much less unexpected that Dodge has also shed the silk of a new four-door variant.

Unlike the old Charger sedan and Challenger coupe, which had a different styling, the differences between the new Charger models are the number of doors. The ceiling plate of both variants is common. What was replaced is the advancement of the B-pillar and the addition of a couple more doors. This means that both cars have exactly the same headroom, legroom, and shoulder room in the rear, only it will be less difficult to get in and out of the back seat of the sedan.

The production booth also remains virtually unchanged from the concept. The fabrics of both finishes look very premium with contrasting stitching masses and soft-touch fabrics. The dashboard has two screens with no cover. All chargers will receive a 12. 3-inch central touchscreen angled towards the driver and will include UConnect5 infotainment. The R/Ts will receive a 10-inch panel display, while a 16-inch panel will be optional and popular in the Scat Pack.

The Dodge Charger’s performance-oriented guide wheel provides a technical feel, with a heated flat top and bottom design and includes paddle shifters to manage regenerative braking and a PowerShot button, located at the front of the wheel for acceleration. for the Charger Daytona Scat Pack and R/T.

All displays feature local dimming with higher contrast to ensure they remain visual despite the lack of a cover. A giant enlarged front display will also be available. A sleek version of the pistol-grip shifter can be found in the center console with the home button and a cordless phone charger. Sculpted accent panels surround the cabin from the doors and dashboard and combine with 64-colour ‘Attitude Adjustment’ ambient lighting to create other ambiences depending on vehicle occasions and motive force actions. There’s also a PowerShot button that releases an extra 40 horsepower from the engines for up to 15 seconds, more than enough to go a quarter mile.

The natural aesthetic of the exterior is found in the dynamic, driver-focused interior design of the new Dodge Charger, which edits the modern, visceral feel of the new cabin. Interior shown includes Plus Package, Carbon Package

A button below the left spoke of the guide wheel allows you to switch between riding modes with a single touch, adding automatic, sport, eco, rain/snow, track and drag. On the touchscreen, there are also race options, adding line lock, release control, donut mode and mode. Race Prep allows the motive force to preheat the battery for maximum bursts of force on the race track or cool the battery before hitting a racetrack.

There’s 22. 7 cubic feet of shipping area for the rear seats, and when the rear seats are folded, it reaches 37. 4 cubic feet. Kuniskis boasted that for track days, the Charger might have compatibility with a full set of extra wheels/tires at the rear. while one of the display models we saw had an electric racing kart prototype in the rear. Unfortunately, lately there doesn’t seem to be any plans to offer this kart as a Mopar accessory.

Despite the additional length and width, the new Charger loses approximately 1. 6 cubic feet of passenger volume to 103. 1 cubic feet. Most of this seems to be a relief of plus or minus three inches in rear legroom to 37. 2 inches, with the other interior dimensions being about the same.

All-electric all-wheel-drive Dodge Charger Daytona models are powered by a 400V propulsion formula that provides supercharged V8 power with 0 exhaust emissions and instant torque response. The partial vehicle symbol for the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack highlights the wheels, half-axles, front and rear electric propulsion modules, and high-voltage battery.

Of course, since the new Charger Daytona is electric, there’s one major dimensional upgrade to consider: weight. The curb weight of a 2023 Charger Scat Pack is 4,361 pounds. The 2024 Charger Daytona costs more than £5,838.

Despite all the extra volume, the Charger Daytona promises to live up to Kuniskis’ American eMuscle promise. When it goes on sale this summer, it will be available in two variants, each with the same pair of electric propulsion modules. the front and rear axles and on the battery, but with different configurations. The entry-level style will be an R/T with the Dodge Direct Connection (DC) 1 configuration. It will be rated at 456 horsepower and 404 lb-ft. of torque with the 15-second Power Shot boost mode that will bring that force to 496 horsepower. Thanks to the extra traction presented through all-wheel drive and instantaneous electric torque, the R/T deserves to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4. 7 seconds and go the quarter-mile in 13. 1 seconds.

An all-new, state-of-the-art pistol-grip shifter and push-button start/start are clustered near the center console of the new Dodge Charger, which also includes a cordless phone charger.

The second launch variant will be the Scat Pack with DC II. With 630 nominal horsepower and 670 Power Shot horsepower, the 627 lb-ft of torque at 0 rpm deserves this edition to hit a 0-60 in 3. 3 seconds and a quarter-mile in 11. 5 seconds. These are higher numbers than the old Charger Hellcat Redeye. The key here is that instant torque and the ability to deliver it through all 4 tires and not just the rears.

The patent-pending front R-Wing, exclusive to electrified Dodge Charger Daytona models, is a reference to the original Charger Daytona design while also allowing air to pass through a front passage area, obtaining better downforce while also creating a unique visual profile.

These are even the fastest versions of the Charger in the short-term product plan. The R/T and the Scat Pack each use a 400 V electrical system. Sometime in 2025, we’ll have the Banshee upgrading to 800V and an unknown amount of force and torque aiming to take on the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, but the Banshee will have to wait a bit.

One of the keys to achieving this functionality will be the battery. The Charger Daytona is equipped with a 100. 5 kWh battery with nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) cathodic chemistry provided through Samsung SDI. The battery has a maximum discharge rate of 550 kW. well above the 500 kW produced through the Scat Pack motors in PowerShot power mode, so it can contain electrons to generate this functionality.

The all-new Dodge Charger features a distillation of powerful car design through a muscular, modern exterior that focuses on function, avoids excess, and subtly acknowledges inspiration from the clean, immortal lines of its predecessors.

The motors are permanent magnet assemblies capable of generating up to 250 kW of force and are incorporated into the power electronics and the ultimate transmission gearbox. Inverters use silicon carbide chips for force conversion power. The rear-wheel-drive unit also boasts limited power. -Slip differential, while the front axle features wheel finish disconnect to reduce drag in light load conditions.

Reversing all that momentum requires a lot of prevention power. As an electric vehicle, the Charger Daytona will clearly use a lot of regenerative braking and paddles on the steering wheel will allow the driver to control regeneration on the fly. But that’s todo. no is enough when employing the functional functions of such a heavy car. The R/T’s popular friction brakes use floating calipers with 14-inch front rotors. The Scat Pack has constant front calipers on 15-inch rotors and the optional Track Pack upgrades them to 16-inch rotors with six-piston Brembo front and four-piston rear calipers.

All new Chargers feature multi-link suspension at the front and a full-link arrangement at the rear axle. The Track Pack also adds dual-valve adaptive dampers that adjust rebound and rebound rates. Another feature of the Track Pack is the stepped tire. The 305 mm front tires are fixed on 20 x 11 inch wheels, while the 325 mm rear tires are fixed on wider 11. 5-inch wheels. The R/T has 18 x 8-inch alloy wheels, all with the revived Fratzog logo on the mid cap.

There was no doubt that the electric Charger Daytona was going to be incredibly fast on the straightaways. Although Kuniskis hints that it will also be a very fast car on track, it remains to be seen how well a car of around three tonnes will perform. Take the car to the track. Fat tires and popular all-wheel drive deserve help, but physics wins out in the end. Dodge also includes a driving experience recording formula that uses the vehicle’s cameras to record video and track day data and purchase it on a USB drive.

Regardless of its actual speed, Dodge also wants this car to be fast. It’s all part of the visceral experience of a fast car. The concept featured what Dodge called a Fratzonic exhaust chamber and this car was carried over to the production model. A set of speakers powering a pair of passive radiators, much like an internal combustion exhaust formula. All of this is still being adjusted, but the formula is designed to meet the demands of the motive force and the vehicle. For example, a driving force can, at a red light, press the accelerator and generate corresponding sounds. Of course, there will also be a stealth mode to quietly pass an expired house at night or leave early.

The patent-pending Fratzonic chamber exhaust formula for Dodge Charger Daytona models creates an exhaust profile with Hellcat sound intensity degrees that breaks the preconceived design of a typical quiet BEV.

While the Charger Daytona may be reminiscent of the functionality of vintage muscle cars, it’s still a modern vehicle, and unlike the Viper that debuted three decades ago, that means it boasts modern protection features. That means forward collision caution with automatic emergency. Braking and Vulnerable Road User Detection, Active Lane Management, Active Driving Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Following, and Drowsy Motive Force Detection are all standard. Wrap-around view cameras and tire tracking to curbs are also available.

So, with all the performance, one might expect the diversity to be terrible. While it’s not a top-notch class, far from it, it’s not terrible. Although Kuniskis continually repeats that no one cares about the power of muscle cars, at the end of the day they have to be useful. According to Dodge, the Charger Daytona R/T has at least 317 miles of combined diversity, while the Scat Pack has at least 260 miles.

New 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack

Initial 400V versions of the Charger Daytona are capable of AC charging at home up to 11kW, while suitable DC fast chargers can fill the battery up to 183kW. It’s not a market leader, but it’s still pretty fast. Dodge claims 5-80% charge with a 350kW charger in about 28 minutes. At launch, these will come with CCS charging connectors, but at some point, most likely in 2025, when the 2026 style launches, they will most likely be ported over to the NACS/J3400. Charging port.

The new Chargers will be built at Stellantis’ Windsor, Ontario, meeting plant with the Chrysler Pacifica. The two-door R/T and Scat Pack will arrive in dealerships this summer as 2024 models, followed a few months later by the four-door. Sometime in 2025, Dodge will also release an edition with the concept’s Banshee propulsion formula and an 800V electric formula. While the main spec points are yet to be revealed, the Banshee will most likely feature at least 800 horsepower in an effort to be one of the fastest revving cars on the market.

Any charger with the R-Wing name on the front and the Daytona name on the rear bumper will be battery powered. But in 2025, there will also be chargers without the R-wing and Daytona brands. Since the STLA Large has been designed to be flexible and seat for propulsion options, there will be new internal combustion chargers powered by Stellantis’ 3. 0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder Hurricane engine. The Dodge Charger Sixpack S. O. gets the same 420-horsepower Hurricane as the Jeep Wagoneer and 2025 Ram 1500. There will also be a 550-horsepower Charger Sixpack H. O. powered by a hurricane.

Interior plan of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack.

While they’re probably not as fast as the Charger Daytona Scat Pack, they’re tougher than the older 5. 7-liter and 6. 4-liter Hemi V8s and are expected to outperform them. According to Kuniskis, there are no plans for new V8 engines. Powered loaders or four-cylinder engines.

Dodge announces pricing for the Charger Daytona through the sales date, but the R/T will most likely start selling at least in the mid-$50,000 range, if not closer to $60,000. Since the initial source of Samsung batteries does come from Korea, the Charger Daytona will not be eligible for IRA tax credits when purchased. However, you’ll get advantages from the $7,500 advertising vehicle credits implemented at the time of lease.
