A first look at the 2025 McLaren Artura Spider, with a long list of improvements

McLaren’s Artura stood out last year as the British supercar brand’s first high-volume hybrid style (the 2013 P1 was technically the company’s first hybrid, but fewer than 500 examples were produced). Despite the extra parts and complexity required by any hybrid powertrain, McLaren managed to keep the Artura’s weight at 3,300 pounds, precisely in line with non-hybrid competitors from Lamborghini and Porsche. Now comes the 2025 Artura Spider, featuring a number of upgrades to the coupe, some of which can be installed for free on existing Arturas.

The Lightw8 design is (thankfully) consistent dominance for McLaren, and in the case of the new Artura Spider, that means a nominal 136-pound build-up on the w8 sidewalk over the coupe. At 3,439 pounds, the McLaren Artura Spider is among the lightest convertible supercars available. Its retractable carbon fiber hardtop works through 8 electric motors to ascend or descend in 11 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph. The roof can be configured with electrochromic technology, allowing for an almost instantaneous transition between a transparent or opaque panel.

While the retractable hardtop is the most obvious new feature on the 2025 Artura, a long list of engine, transmission and suspension upgrades will also debut on the 2025 McLaren Spider. . . and in the coupe. A touch of 19 horsepower for the 3. 0-liter V6 brings total production to 690, and this upgrade can be added to existing coupes. Upgrades to the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission change the timings to 25 percent, and the active suspension now responds to the actions of the driving force, or adjustments in the road.

These innovations deserve to result in a more engaging driving experience for both the Spider and the coupe, with acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h in 3 seconds, acceleration from 0 to 124 mph in 8. 4 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph. A new “wheel rotation” setting for the release control formula allows the vehicle to accelerate with maximum drama (for drivers and observers), while new transmission mounts reduce engine movement in competitive maneuvers, further improving the Artura’s stability and confidence. Even the 7. 4 kWh battery’s all-electric diversity has been improved, from 11 to 21 miles.

Standard Motive Force Assist systems, which add lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition, can optionally be supplemented with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control. These ADAS systems are configured on the Artura’s 8-inch center touchscreen, which gives Apple CarPlay as standard. An optional wireless smartphone charger and a Bowers sound system
