Four people died on Monday after being hit by a car on the N11 in Ga-Mashikiri, Waterberg district, Limpopo.
The provincial Department of Transport and Community Safety says they were busy painting structures on the road when they were hit by the car.
A spokesman for the department, Vongani Chauke, said the accident was due to speeding.
“Four construction workers perished on the scene, while the other two were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“The driver of the Astra sedan also rushed to the hospital for medical treatment and a wrongful death case was opened,” Chauke said.
MEC Transportes Florencia Radzilani messages of condolences to the families.
“We urge drivers to exercise caution when arriving at structure sites as contractors fix and renovate roads across the province. Please pay attention to all precautionary symptoms and obey the instructions,” Radzilani said.
