The Chrysler 300 might be gone by the end of last year, but owners can still breathe new life into the car by transforming it into a single-cab pickup truck, or ute, with a pickup truck conversion kit from Smyth Performance.
Available for 300 years of design from 2011-2020, the kit was designed by Oscar Vargas and developed by Smyth Performance, a Massachusetts-based automotive kit company that specializes in truck conversions. The company has a variety of popular cars in its portfolio, adding one of the best-selling cars in history, the Volkswagen Beetle. As for the 300th, owner Mark Smith created a kit for the full-size luxury sedan for the love of the now-obsolete Hemi engine.
The kit includes fiberglass left and right side panels, a fiberglass rear window frame, and a rear window sourced from a GM Colorado. There are also roof and B-pillar brackets, two- or three-piece flatbed flooring, and internal structural nightstands. , all 1/8 inch thick and made of aluminum.
The truck’s bed is oddly practical: It measures between five and six feet long with the tailgate closed, and the most responsive rails measure 48. 5 inches wide in the narrowest segment at the front. The wheel arches measure 48. 5 inches and slope up to 36 inches wide on the terrain.
Other parts that come with the conversion kit come with an OEM metal tailgate, center panel/bumper cover with fiberglass rear curling iron, and interior floor mats. The conversion kit is also available for the Dodge Charger, as it features the same basic elements as the 300.
Chrysler didn’t produce a mass-market pickup truck; owns the Ram Trucks brand. As cool as a Ram 1500 can be, there’s something incredibly appealing about this Chrysler 300 SUV with a Hemi V8 up front.
Smyth Performance sells the truck’s conversion kit for $4,490 and says the kit comprises “everything you want, for the donor’s car and paint. “Production of the first 25 kits of the 300 Special Edition already began last month, and interested owners just want a car and paint from a donor to get started.
