DETROIT – A is in critical condition after a crash in Detroit in which she had to be pulled from her vehicle.
According to Michigan State Police, the three-vehicle crash happened Monday at 5:05 a. m. near the M-39 and Joy Road, when a Mazda hit a 25-year-old woman and crashed into the back of an Audi, which then crashed into a Nissan.
The driver of the Mazda did not react and was trapped inside the vehicle, police said. She exited the vehicle through the Detroit Fire Department and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.
She was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. The other drivers were not injured and were wearing seat belts.
“It’s a fact that wearing seat belts is the most productive defense against injury in an accident,” said Lt. Mike Shaw. “It will stay behind the wheel and allow all the protective functions to work. Wear your seat belt no matter where you sit in your car.
The woman has been known by name.
