£80,000 Jaguar went off the road after brake failure at 100mph

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

A driver drove at full speed on a motorway at 160 km/h for 35 minutes without braking after his electric Jaguar I-Pace malfunctioned.

Nathan Owen, 31, was travelling on the M62 when the brakes on his £80,000 car began to fail, for the second time in three months.

Emergency personnel were forced to negotiate traffic jams without braking for more than half an hour until the electric vehicle began to run out of power and police were able to force it to stop.

He said, “I think I’m going to end up in a car accident, I’m going to kill myself, or I’m going to kill an innocent user on the road.

“The car as a whole just didn’t have brakes. The speed was around 100 kilometers per hour in the 1990s, up to 100. I think this is a bit wrong.

“On the dashboard it looked like there was a malfunction in my car’s battery. I kept trying to hit the brakes but nothing happened. So the next thing I could think of was to call 999 and tell them what was going on.

Merseyside Police sent at least 8 people to escort M. Owen down the busy road.

He told her to sit on the shoulder with her hazards and to try to remain transparent to other drivers.

But I had to get in and out of the leftmost lane at the forks and junctions.

Officers closed two lanes so they could prevent it as safely as possible.

Mr Owen told MailOnline: “It’s scary, I hit that policeman in the back. I hit them at about 90 mph.

“I was talking to the operator and he was worried. I thought I could kill myself by beating up that 90-year-old police officer, or that I could kill him if he loses control.

“The police said they’ve never come across this before and when they pulled me down the side of the road and the police were with me, it was like something out of a movie. “

The car did brake until the miles had passed.

Afterward, he said he “froze in the position where he was holding the steering wheel” and may simply signal to officials seeking to reach him.

The footage shows the vehicle trapped between two police vehicles on the eastbound road between J11 towards Birchwood and J12 towards Eccles.

But this is the first time this has happened to Mr. Owen.

In December, he also lost the vehicle when it began reaching speeds of up to 120 mph.

“I ended up calling the police, like I did with this one. I managed to stop the car after pressing the buttons on the I-Pace,” he said.

The North West Highway Police reported the incident on social media, writing: “Lately, police closed lanes 3 and 4 on the M62 EB J11 to 12.

“This is due to the use of tactics to prevent an electric vehicle with an electrical failure where the driver was unable to brake. Officials from Merseyside, Cheshire and GMP Highways stopped the vehicle.

The Jaguar I-Pace will be phased out ahead of the company’s relaunch in 2025.

The style is also used as a reaction vehicle for the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A JLR spokesperson said: “Following the incident involving a Jaguar I-PACE on the M62 on the afternoon of 6 March, we are addressing this matter urgently.

“A full investigation into the cause of this incident is underway, which has not yet been established. Protecting our consumers and cars is JLR’s most sensible priority.

In October, Brian Morrison, 53, said he was returning home from work when his electric MG ZS suffered a “catastrophic malfunction” that forced him to avoid red lights and roundabouts.

He called the police to ram his truck.
