Four other people died after a five-vehicle crash near Floodwood on Wednesday afternoon.
According to an incident report from the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:54 p. m. on Highway 2 near Nelson Road in Arrowhead Township.
Authorities say a GMC Acadia, a Ford Escape, a Mack Semi and a Honda Pilot were stopped in traffic due to structural paint when an International truck crashed into the stopped vehicles.
On Thursday, the State Patrol reported that all four occupants of the Honda Pilot — Vincent Dow, 65, Bonnie Dow, 66, Hope Oakgrove, Array and Charlotte White — had died following a crash. result of the accident.
While the driver of the Ford Escape was not hurt, an 84-year-old woman passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of both the Mack Semi, a 45-year-old man, and the International Semi, a 63-year-old man, have non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
The two occupants of the GMC Acadia were injured in the accident.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke to a woman who rushed to help those affected immediately after the accident.
“It was very traumatic. I mean, there was nothing left of that car. It’s possible that no one survived,” Katy Augusta said of the other four people who died inside the van.
Augusta said she was one of a dozen intelligent Samaritans who stopped to help.
The organization included an emergency room and a nurse.
“I think our intuition is to approve and help and see what we can do,” Augusta said.
The State Patrol is investigating why the truck driver stopped as he approached the paint zone.
“I saw him get out of that truck and you can tell he was devastated,” Augusta said.
Augusta said she was able to help two women in one of the other vehicles, but her center is caring for relatives of those killed.
“It’s terrible and I only pray for the family and the parents of those girls,” Augusta said.
