The University of Delhi (DU) awarded positions to 80,164 of the more than 150,000 applicants for its undergraduate courses on Wednesday evening, launching the first round of a radically new admissions process that saw nearly 30,000 settle for stipends in less than four hours.
Implemented to comply with the new Common University Entrance Test (CUET) process, DU’s new Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) began with the allocation of admission slots to academics based on their CUET functionality and the admission preference they indicated when enrolling.
“The University has allocated 80,164 posts at other levels. At 8:30 p. m. m. , at least 29,232 applicants had accepted their assigned seats,” said DU registrar Vikas Gupta.
While academics said the new formula was unfamiliar to them, some educators said it would eventually lead to a smoother process.
Anju Srivastava, principal of Hindu College, said there will be more clarity on the number of applicants admitted to schools until Thursday. “We want time to perceive how the admission formula works this time. We got a big reaction in all the courses,” he said. Said.
“DU deals with the councils and we will get a list of, say, 90 or a hundred academics opposed to 70 seats. Previously, the numbers were almost 400. We also made admissions and canceled them in case the academics withdrew. This time the numbers are decreasing and there will be fewer cancellations,” Manoj Khanna, principal of Ramjas College, told ANI news agency.
Until last year, the university enrolled academics only on the basis of the effects of the Class 12 council examination, a procedure it abandoned after the Union government implemented the CUET procedure. In the above procedure, schools published their own cut-off marks for courses based on Trends in the Effects of Board Examinations.
Under the new system, applicants get main points about their school and courses on their dashboard based on their functionality in CUET, which is now the go-to place for admission to public universities that offer arts, sciences and business courses. Medicine and engineering courses adhere to another access process.
Those assigned seats at the DU CSAS have until five in the afternoon. October 21 to settle for the assignment or be excluded from the admission process. Students will have the option to freeze their seats or upgrade in the next rounds of the prize. If they expect an improvement, they will also be allowed to rearrange their preference.
While the university did not provide the main points about the lowest CUET scores of academics who were allocated slots on Wednesday, officials at some DU popular schools said the academics who won spots in the first circular were those in the “high CUET score group. “
“Despite a score of 767. 4 out of 800 in CUET, I was given a seat at my favorite 13th university,” said one candidate, who asked not to be nominated.
According to the candidates, the SASC dashboard showed the course call, the school, and the reference number assigned to them. After logging in, a candidate will need to click “accept assignment” in the user’s action tab.
Gupta said applicants will need to ensure they have secured their admission to their assigned seat. “Only applicants admitted to a program at a school will be able to opt for the upgrade in the next few cycles,” he said.
If the applicant is not satisfied with the course or school assigned to him, he can opt for the “upgrade” option. They will be automatically updated according to the assignment policy. Your recently admitted seat will be automatically cancelled if a new preference is assigned. ” the registrar added.
The upgrade option will not be granted to a candidate who has been given their school’s first preference and course.
“If applicants are satisfied with the seat assigned to them and do not wish to be considered for upcoming awards, they will need to submit a ‘freeze’ request through their board,” Gupta said.
Late into the night, school officials struggled to perceive the new formula. “Although the formula is easy to use, it is new to our officials. It takes our admissions officer some time to get data on students who settle for assigned positions. “puts in our school. It didn’t take long to clarify whether similar trends would continue under CUET, which also saw a large number of students in the top percentiles and scored the highest.
After two years interrupted by the pandemic, the new group of graduates had to navigate those new procedures, leaving many feeling they were subject to unnecessary complications. “With CUET, we have to examine the same course 3 times.
