2025 Skoda Kodiaq road test

Skoda’s Kodiaq SUV was praised when it first landed in 2017; its impressive tech, versatile cabin, appealing pricing and quality cockpit made it favourable amidst its sea of rivals.

I spent a week getting familiar with the new style and came to the conclusion that it’s not just good, it’s fantastic.

Although it maintains its SUV body and continues on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Kodiaq is now longer and more spacious, has new lights, a new logo and a new grille.

These questions scratch the surface slightly. There are also new engines, adding a plug-in hybrid option and an attractive new interior, with a greater emphasis on sustainability.

The 1. 5-litre 148hp mild hybrid e-Tec engine fitted to my press car was the same as that in my recent borrowed Skoda Superb and 148hp actually rarely surpasses current standards; This engine does a wonderful job of balancing performance. and the economy.

If more oomph is needed, however, there’s a 200 bhp petrol engine and a hot 241 bhp vRS guise. Likewise, the seven-speed DSG gearbox shifts smoothly and responds promptly to downshifts via the paddle shifters.

As with the Superb, it takes a while to get used to the new controls, as Skoda has merged the wipers and signals on the left paddle, while the gear variety (park, driving, reverse) is done on the right stick.

The Kodiaq’s suspension cushions bumps and bumps, despite its 19-inch alloys, and opting for Skoda’s Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) can soften or stiffen the ride. with the push of a button.

It’s not exactly what you’d call a wedge-iron, but it feels balanced in turns, and while it’s not extreme, you notice the roll a bit.

Skoda claims that the Kodiaq, with this engine, will reach between 42. 8 and 44. 5 mpg (WLTP), the most I could achieve on fairly long trips was 36 mpg.

Since the gear selector was moved, there’s more area to store phones and keys and the cabin overall feels airier and less cluttered. The integrated display has also been replaced by a modern 13-inch touchscreen and a nifty 10. 25-inch virtual cockpit.

It feels lofty and chunky from the driver’s seat and its long bonnet will have you questioning how much room is left up front before it kisses a fence, therefore it might be worth opting for the £1,785 ($2,170) 360-degree camera system if this is your first Kodiaq rodeo.

This family-focused hauler boasts heaps of room and the boot is cavernous at 910 litres. Fold the rear seats flat and this increases to a mighty 2,105 litres. If you choose the seven seater, this drops to 2,035 and 845 litres with the third row down and with the seats in place, you still get a respectable 340 litres.

So, if you have family members or need a school bus, the Kodiaq will be at the most convenient spot on your shopping list. Your kids will also be pleased with the rear phone chargers and the multitude of cup holders.
