Skoda’s Kodiaq SUV received praise when it first landed in 2017; Its impressive technology, flexible cabin, price and quality cabin made it favorable among its sea of rivals.
I spent one week acquainting myself with the newest model, and I’ve concluded it’s not just good—it’s great.
While it retains its SUV physique, and continues to sit on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Kodiaq’s now longer and roomier, there are new lights, a new logo and a new grille.
These points barely scratch the surface. There are also some new engines to choose from, including a plug-in hybrid option and an attractive new interior, with a larger emphasis on sustainability.
The 148hp 1. 5-litre mild hybrid e-Tec engine fitted to my press car was the same as that in my recent borrowed Skoda Superb and 148hp actually rarely exceed today’s standards; This engine does a wonderful job of balancing performance. and the economy.
However, if more power is needed, there is a 200 hp petrol engine and a 241 hp vRS version. In addition, the seven-speed DSG gearbox shifts smoothly and responds temporarily to the gearshift paddles.
As with the Superb, it takes a while to get used to the new controls, as Skoda has merged the wipers and indicators into the left stalk, while the range of gears (park, drive, reverse) is done on the joystick. right.
The Kodiaq’s suspension cushions bumps and bumps, despite its 19-inch alloys, and opting for Skoda’s Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) can soften or stiffen the ride. with the push of a button.
It’s not exactly what you’ll call a corner iron, but it feels balanced through the twisties and although it’s not extreme, there’s a bit of notable body roll.
Skoda claims that the Kodiaq, with this engine, will reach between 42. 8 and 44. 5 mpg (WLTP), the most I could achieve on fairly long trips was 36 mpg.
Since the gear selector was moved, there’s more area to store phones and keys and the cabin overall feels airier and less cluttered. The integrated display has also been replaced by a modern 13-inch touchscreen and an ingenious 10. 25-inch virtual cockpit.
It feels tall and bulky from the driver’s seat and its long hood will make you wonder how much space there is in front of you before kissing a fence. So it might be worth opting for the £1,785 ($2,170) 360-degree camera formula if this is your first Kodiaq rodeo.
Interior of the Skoda Kodiaq 2025
This family vehicle offers plenty of space and the boot is cavernous at 910 liters. If we fold down the rear seats, the volume increases to 2,105 liters. If you’re the seven-seater, this drops to 2,035 and 845 liters with the 3rd row folded down and with the seats in position you still get a respectable 340 liters.
So, if you have family or need a school bus, the Kodiaq will be at the top of your shopping list. Your kids will also be pleased with the rear phone chargers and multitude of cupholders.
