Isuzu has unveiled its long-awaited MU-X facelift in Thailand.
As expected, the off-road SUV gets a major styling overhaul, with a new lattice-style grille, more subtle paneling and a cooler soft stripe at the rear. On the Thai market, it also offers a premium RS sports variant with black trim and uniquely designed wheels.
Like the D-Max ute update that preceded it, the new MU-X also features a revised 9. 0-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as adjustment and volume dials. There’s also a new 7. 0-inch semi-digital display. Tool panel to fit the D-Max.
Smaller upgrades come with USB-C plugs and modified seat designs, with exclusive piping for the RS edition and a new brown interior color selection (at least for the Thai market).
Mechanically, it turns out there’s no substitute for this facelift, as the MU-X chooses its outstanding 3. 0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine (140 kW/450 Nm), or the smaller, emission-friendly one. Option of 1. 9-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (110 kW/350 Nm), available in 4×2 or 4×4 configuration with six-speed automatic transmission.
Isuzu Australia has been contacted for comment on the new MU-X, but if the same delay continues since the unveiling of the refurbished D-Max in Thailand, a local launch is expected in early 2025 for this new version.
The Isuzu MU-X has had a good year so far in Australia, with a big increase of 41. 9 cents, after selling 8,519 units at the end of May. The D-Max is also on the rise this year, posting solid figures for Isuzu, a brand that manages to occupy the tenth position in Australia despite launching only two models of resistant ladder chassis.
Isuzu’s position will be at risk next year, as the MU-X takes on Toyota’s revamped festival with its new next-generation Prado, Mitsubishi with a next-generation Pajero Sport based on the new Pajero Sport (based on the new Triton), as well as a new push from GWM with the diversity of off-road and hybrid vehicles from its Tank sub-brand.
The new brands also account for a percentage of the off-road and off-road SUV market, adding BYD with its upcoming Shark ute and Geely also hinting at the launch of its electric radar (or Riddara) Down Under.
Isuzu will have to deal with the fallout from Australia’s recently followed new-vehicle emissions criteria that unveiled an all-electric edition of the D-Max that it says will arrive in Australia soon.
The electric D-Max will use two electric motors on the axle, generating a total power of 130 kW/325 Nm, providing a towing capacity of 3,500 kg and providing a claimed range of three hundred kilometers with a 66. 9 kWh battery.
Meanwhile, the brand is also launching a D-Max hybrid, which combines the 1. 9-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, in a bid to reduce its reliance on its famous 3. 0-litre engine. Turbodiesel engine.
Stay tuned for more information on Isuzu’s emissions reduction and new design projects towards the end of this year.
