The redesigned 2025 Infiniti QX80 made its public debut at Edge at Hudson Yards, a hundred-story skyscraper above the streets of New York’s Manhattan borough. It took a while to get one of those big SUVs there.
As shown in a video posted via Infiniti, the QX80 used for the reveal was dismantled and then reassembled on the streets. The disassembly, which began 40 days before the reveal, included cutting the engine and fuel formula, as well as redesigning the electric formula. so that the seat controls, lighting, and audio system will continue to work once the QX80 is reassembled.
The QX80 isn’t just disassembled. It also cut into sections small enough to be compatible with the forklifts used to ship everything to the expanded location. The roof was cut and the frame was divided into sections.
Surprisingly, this is rarely the first time an automaker has cut a car to the top of a New York City skyscraper. Ford accomplished a similar feat when he introduced the original Mustang in 1964, hitting one on the 86th-floor deck of the Empire State Building.
Ford repeated the blow in 2014 on the occasion of the Mustang’s 50th anniversary, but refrained from doing so on the occasion of the Mustang’s 60th anniversary, held at the 2024 New York Auto Show last month.
The redesigned QX80 features a new look and features that help it better compete with competing luxury SUVs. Highlights include a 3. 5-liter twin-turbo V6 instead of the naturally aspirated 5. 6-liter V8 of the outgoing model, and a more sophisticated three-screen display. infotainment system.
These new features, however, come with a steep price increase. The 2025 QX80 starts at $84,445 targeted, going up to $76,045 for the 2024 model year. The cars are expected to arrive at dealerships this summer, without the need for a meeting.
