2024 Nissan Ariya Nismo electric SUV unveiled

The Nissan Ariya electric SUV is the newest vehicle developed through Japanese auto giant Nissan Motorsport’s (Nismo) high-performance department, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show.

It brings more power from its dual electric motors, sportier styling, and changes under the skin – including stiffer and lower suspension, retuned electronics and lighter wheels – with the promise of a sharper driving experience.

Australian arrival plans are yet to be confirmed – given a local launch date for the regular Nissan Ariya is yet to be announced – and it may never come here, as not all Nismo models are sold in all Nissan markets.

Two versions are available with twin-engine all-wheel drive: the B6 with 270 kW/560 Nm and a 66 kWh battery, and the B9 with 320 kW/600 Nm and a 91 kWh battery.

Power outputs increase from 205 kW/560 Nm and 290 kW/600 Nm in the models, with unchanged batteries. Curb weights for the Nismo versions are 2,080 kg and 2,210-2,220 kg respectively.

Mechanical tweaks come with lighter 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV 255/45 R20 tires, stiffer springs and shocks, and a reworked stability calibration.

The Nismo features an artificial driving sound “reminiscent of Formula E racing”, as well as a Nismo driving mode that “maximises response”.

The Nismo is differentiated in styling on the road via new front and rear bumpers, a giant front splitter, new side skirts, a rear tailgate spoiler (in addition to the roof spoiler), and red stripes.

Inside, trims come with Nismo gaming seats with leather and suede upholstery, red stitching and a 12-hour marker on the guide wheel, red accents on the dash, black trim that replaces the Ariya’s open-pore wood inserts, and a red force button.

There is an exclusive grey exterior colour, with the option of black racing stripes.

The 2024 Nissan Ariya Nismo will hit Japanese showrooms in the spring of 2024 (our fall).
