Despite the arrival of the production variant in 2022, General Motors will not maintain the value of its Silverado EV pickup in this country until April 2024. For those who rarely read beyond the first paragraph, know that the 3WT edition will charge $74,699 more. destiny; while the first full edition of RST will cost $117,499 plus fees.
With those big numbers out of the way, keep in mind that the all-electric pickup truck segment is evolving, with corporations like Ford shifting costs and cutting back on some production plans. In other words, those costs can simply replace, up or down. “On a whim, if recent history has taught us anything.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV 3WT will make 510 horsepower and six hundred pound-feet of torque, while the 4WT adds five more horses for a smart move. Up to 12,500 pounds of towing and 1,750 pounds of payload are integral parts of the 3WT.
Not that the Silverado EV is the spiritual successor to the old Avalanche, which features a folding center door that extends the bed floor from 5’11” to 10’10” after lowering the bulkhead and stowing the rear cockpit seat. Interestingly, the rear wheel protrusions of the Silvy EV on its shipping platform are asymmetrical, as shown in a photo in the gallery below, taken at the Toronto Auto Show earlier this year.
The RST Snazzy First Edition will feature 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque once its drivers press a button for the so-called Wide Open Watts mode. With a higher popular apparatus level, which has additional mass, the trailer is reduced to 10,000 pounds and the payload drops to 1,300 pounds. RSTs get Super Cruise perks, 24-inch wheels, air suspension, and a 17-inch Jumbotron on the dash. The WT pair settles for an 11-inch display, but still gets advantages from a trunk, a sextet of 120V plugs, a multitude of camera angles, and the ability to suck electrons out of a 350kW DC fast charger.
Notably, GM helps keep mentioning the battery diversity of the 450-mile (724-kilometer) 4WT, conveniently omitting the numbers for the less expensive 3WT version. Thankfully, NRCan’s masterminds are on the right track, indicating that the 3WT is capable of generating around 632 clicks (393 miles) on a single charge. Meanwhile, consumers who opt for the pricey RST First Edition will have 440 miles (708 kilometers) of GM-estimated diversity under their belt.
It’s been a hot minute since The General introduced the Silverado EV, its gateway to the all-electric pickup truck segment, with its official unveiling more than two years ago. Perhaps the bow tie logo is content to allow rival Ford to take over the chin. This is the point of early adopters of the EV game, opting to cool down and remain a bit of black ink on the balance sheet.
