Once the age of 21 is passed, milestone anniversaries are greeted with as much apprehension as celebration. There is the existential preoccupation with aging, the awe of one’s accomplishments, and the disturbing evidence of physical decline. It’s different. So, with the Volkswagen GTI achieving the big 4-0 this year (at least the American version), there was still nothing to do to celebrate the occasion. Well, maybe also monetize the occasion, launching a special 40th anniversary edition.
This GTI acquires festive clothing in the form of special graphics on the underbody, 40th anniversary badges and exclusive Tornado Red and Uranus Grey colors (compared to Kings Red metallic and Moonstone Grey in other GTIs), as well as Opal White Pearl and Grapefruit. Metallic yellow. For an extra touch of contrast, the roof, wheels and mirror housings are painted in black, some other exclusive to the anniversary edition.
