The latest generation Opel Astra will now be presented for the first time as an all-electric vehicle, following in the footsteps of the smaller Corsa. Opel has unveiled the first photographs of the new Astra Electric, available in sedan and estate. Sports Tourer versions, as well as initial specifications.
From the design, there is very little that distinguishes the Astra Electric from its ICE or plug-in hybrid siblings. Express alloy wheels for electric cars (available in diamond or all-black finish).
Unsurprisingly, the Opel Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric share the all-electric powertrain with the Peugeot e-308 unveiled in September. 10 Nm (7 lb-ft) more torque than the Peugeot – drives the front wheels, allowing a top speed of 170 km/h (105 mph).
The motor is powered by a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery (with a useful capacity of 51 kWh) consisting of 102 cells housed in 17 modules. The compact package enables a diversity (WLTP) of up to 416 kilometres (258 mi), more than the diversity of 400 km (248 mi) of the PEUGEOT e-308.
The power of the Astra Electric is classified by the automaker at 12. 7 kWh of electric power equivalent to one hundred kilometers (62 miles) or 14. 9 kWh equivalent to one hundred kilometers according to WLTP. Charging the battery to 80% capacity takes around 30 minutes at a 100kW DC fast-charging station, with the Astra also equipped with an 11kW three-phase on-board charger for the in-house wall box.
Opel says no internal space is lost for passengers and luggage, as the batteries are housed in the underbody. However, that is totally accurate. While the Astra Sports Tourer Electric offers 516 liters (18. 2 cubic feet) of luggage space in the trunk and up to 1,553 liters (54. 8 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded down, the ICE style offers 608 liters (21. 5 cubic feet) and 1,634 liters. liters (57. 7 cubic feet), respectively.
Speaking of the cabin, the Opel Astra Electric offers features such as ergonomic Active Sport seats (available in Alcantara), a fully virtual Pure Panel configuration with two giant 10-inch widescreen displays, an E-HUD head-up display, herbal voice popularity and Suite.
The compact electric vehicle is also supplied with assistance systems, ranging from forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping assist, drowsiness detection and rear cross traffic alert to semi-automatic lane change, all in the new Intelli-Drive 2. 0.
European consumers will order the Opel Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric from spring 2023.
