ZAC PALMER: Hey guys. My call is Zac Palmer and welcome to Autoblog Garage. This week we have a special episode because, well, here’s a supercar, the Maserati MC20. It’s not every week we get a supercar here for “Autoblog Garage,” but this one is incredibly, incredibly good.
Take the MC20, Maserati’s newest model, its first supercar in so long. We’re very, very excited to have him. So let’s take a look at the outside. After that, we’ll get into it, talk a little bit about the engine, everything that this MC20 has in store for us. Starting with the design on the front, well, that beautiful cherry red color. paint, it’s got a very, very good tone on this car. You can see that the overall design is very simple, charming, and elegant. That’s what Maserati needs to emphasize with this car, is that it’s not a Lamborghini, that it’s not going to be absolutely far-fetched or sharp or anything like that. It’s a simple and straightforward design.
However, in the beginning, we have the $35,000 car carbon fiber package. So they gave him this huge carbon fiber separator for car. You’ll notice that as we go through the rest of the car, there’s so much more. You’ll also know it’s a Maserati at the front. You’ve been given two pitchforks here. One in blue and white right there on the bumper, and then one down here at the air vent. So a lot of Maserati pass it, but let’s locate a few more and go through the car aspect here.
One thing I’ll highlight is those gorgeous black-painted cage-shaped wheels, which also hide the ceramic and carbon fiber brake set and yellow calipers. So that’s an option on this car. You don’t get the carbon ceramic standard for cars. As we move forward, we see. . . well, here we were given the MC20 logo. This is the only position on the car that has MC20 marked on the outside. And more carbon fiber for automobiles. You can see that it’s almost part of the door here. There’s a ton, a ton of carbon fiber car.
You’ve been given your admission here. Really, it’s adorable how it’s integrated in there. You see, one thing Maserati has emphasized with the design of this is that the more sensible part is intended to have that beauty, sublime and simple. Timeless look, while the rear end is intended for aerodynamics. You just have a very, very nice mix of the two, and it’s not too busy in terms of design because of that.
So let’s move on to the back, other timeless looks, more beautiful and elegant, surprising in any parking lot, honestly. Again, there are large amounts of carbon fiber here. They gave you a carbon fiber diffuser, a full bumper, wrap around the exhaust, very nice. I also like that Maserati script up there. Super design, super elegant.
Now that we’ve looked at the outside, how about we check out the inside? Then jump to MC20. You don’t have general doors. Of course, they gave you those awesome supercar gullwing doors that open like that. And getting in, well, it’s not that simple. They gave you this big old piece of carbon fiber there.
So the most productive way that I’ve figured out to approach this topic is to move forward and locate yourself past this piece of carbon fiber and then sit down like this, and then that will allow you to turn all the way around. And then, to conclude, it’s pretty easy. You’ve been given a big leash here at the door. You can just close it and you’re in.
So, now that we’re at the MC20, let’s look around and see what we’ve been given. Immediately, it’s a very fundamental central tunnel. Here they gave them this bare carbon and a big, old touch screen, a few other things. Display here, but with a rather simplistic design. There are a million buttons, switches, and switches to play around with here.
We can see that we were given our opposite button right there, our drive button and manual transfer right there, and then that’s our drive mode selector. So, you’ve rained the GT corsa game and then the ESC mode turned off if you’re on the race track. For this, we have a wireless phone charger on site. This car is supplied with wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Pretty undeniable window controls right there and a volume knob that’s a big steel knurled right there.
So it’s very nice. On the steering wheel right in front of us, we have an Alcantara steering wheel with carbon fiber on the top and bottom. Now, if you have noticed many Alfa Romeos, you should know that they are largely copied from the very, very similar Design of some Alfa Romeos. That’s because Stellantis, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, small portions are being shared.
Now you know what you’re up against because they gave you this fantastic little MC20 badge right there on the dashboard. It’s subsidized through a beautiful metal. Here, of course, the specs of this one are usually a black and grey interior with excellent yellow stitching, which matches the yellow running boards.
But the most important thing is that this cabin is a lesson in minimalism and nothing too crazy. It’s very, very sumptuous without being crowded or overdone. Like the exterior design, there is nothing too crazy here, like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. Other things From a technical point of view, I will highlight the Sonus Faber sound system. It is the only car equipped with a Sonus Faber system. Maserati is exclusive to this system.
And I’ve got a little release button here as well. It’s a fantastic little pass if you need to hit 0-60 in 2. 9 seconds, something Maserati says the MC20 can do. But we’ll probably fire up this car really quickly just to see what those screens look like. So I move on to press the Start button. Learn how to listen to the sound of this V6.
So here we have a pretty wide screen. Use Uconnect 5. Yes, it’s fantastic. That’s precisely what we need for Maserati to use this in a single infotainment software. So that’s perfect. It’s similar to a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ram 1500, only in the Maserati widescreen format. Really, I love it.
And here, too, the toolkit is completely digital. You have very readable gauges and they are also replaced depending on the mode you are in. So you can put it in sports mode. You get a bigger tachometer. You can push it all the way up to the Corsa and things get replaced even more. You have a horizontal tachometer.
So there’s a lot of interesting technology here as well as an amazing design. I’m definitely a fan of everything that goes on inside. But we also deserve to take a look at some of the storage, because technically it’s also the interior. Check the trunk. And yes, there’s a frunk. So let’s get out there quickly and see what we’ve got.
As you can see, the MC20 has a bad side, although it’s not a big deal. You can see it’s very, very shallow. They used it for owner’s manuals and all the documentation you have with the car. An attractive feature, however, is that you have a 12-volt outlet here. So if you want to As a general supercar user, you don’t drive your car very often, you can leave it with a battery and plug it directly into the place through the 12-volt outlet. It’s a great little feature.
We’ll also notice that you bought your windshield washer fluid here. So there’s not much to do here, but the fact that there’s even a frunk is a big plus. Not all supercars have them. We are now at the rear of the MC20, where the trunk and also the engine are. You can open it via the keychain or via the button on the inside. When you open it up, you realize that you’ve got, well, it’s a Grand Opening. You’ve got the trunk and the engine all rolled into one.
Looking at the trunk first, it’s small. Look, you’ve got this kind of slanted view here as well. Surely there won’t be so many golf clubs here. There’s rarely a lot of space. You can put a few bags of groceries, maybe one or two small bags, but, at most, it’s like an overnight supercar, not a week-long vacation supercar. So don’t think you’re going to do that.
But the real piece of resistance we can see here, of course, is the twin-turbocharged 3-liter V6 nettuno. This is the twin-spark V6 nettuno engine evolved through Maserati, making 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. the monster that makes this supercar what it is.
It’s a very, very special engine. It’s the first super-large Maserati engine and it’s been a long time because Maserati has been Ferrari engines for a long time. They now have their own supercar with their own engine. So, it takes you from 0 to 60 in 2. 9 seconds. control. Very, very fast. Top speed, over two hundred mph.
It is a fast car, with very sensitive speeds, acceleration and speed, similar to those of a supercar. AArrayArray wonderful powertrain here. It is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It sends power to a mechanical LSD as standard, but this one has electronic LSD as an option. Therefore, rear-wheel drive, of course, is not an all-wheel-drive supercar. These are the basics of the MC20’s powertrain, and that’s it. But before we conclude, you deserve to pay attention to this because it sounds good.
