2023 ADEX: Hyundai Rotem unveils new amphibious AFV

Hyundai Rotem has unveiled a prototype of its next-generation wheeled N-WAV (wheeled armored vehicle) for the first time at the 2023 Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Show (ADEX).

The N-WAV is currently a technical prototype, the company representative added.

“All facets of the old K808 AFV in service with the Republic of Korea Army have been upgraded to create the N-WAV,” the representative said.

Major upgrades include a new turret equipped with a 30mm gun, a new 700-horsepower diesel engine, and improved amphibious attack capability, according to the representative. On an official corporate specification sheet of the N-WAV, the AFV’s 700-horsepower engine is mated. to a fully automatic transmission with seven forward and opposite gears.

Rheinmetall and the joint venture UDI (formerly Ukroboronprom) have set up a joint venture in Kyiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at the German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin on 24 October. Estonia ordered the Nurol Makina NMS 4×4 armoured vehicles and the Otokar Arma 6×6 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) on 18 October, the Estonian Centre for Defence Investment (ECDI) announced in a statement on the same day.

ECDI signed contracts worth €200 million ($212 million) with the two Turkish corporations for 230 vehicles, as well as documentation, training, special tools, equipment and spare parts. The contracts are valid for 10 years and allow for the acquisition of additional armored vehicles and spare parts, as well as requests for maintenance, repair and improvement of the vehicles.
