Japanese auto giant Toyota recalled 298 copies of its 2020 Toyota Yaris Hybrid due to a software malfunction similar to the car’s hybrid system.
According to Toyota, the recall concerns the Yaris Hybrid Ascent Sport, Yaris Hybrid SX and Yaris Hybrid ZR variants built in 2020.
The recall notice, filed with the Ministry of Infrastructure, states: “Due to a software error, sudden acceleration, the hybrid formula would possibly not activate the vehicle’s degraded mode protection function.
“This can cause the caution lights to come on and cause a sudden loss of engine power.
“Loss of engine power while driving increases the threat of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users. “
A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 298 cars affected by the recall can be found here.
Toyota says it will contact affected homeowners in writing, advising them to make an appointment with their broker, who will update the software for free.
Owners can contact Toyota’s Recall Hotline by phone at 1800-987-366 (Monday through Friday, 8 a. m. m. a 6 p. m. ) or send an email to rappelsupport@toyota. dataresponse. com. au.
