It’s no secret that the United States has fallen in love with manual transmission, however, even some car manufacturers who drive and performance-oriented sports cars are starting to face reality. Last week was the Honda Accord, this week it’s the Genesis G70.
The Korean luxury logo told Roadshow on Thursday that it had sold fewer than a hundred G70 sedans supplied with the manual transmission option last year. To put this in perspective, last June Genesis sold a total of 897 G70 in a single month, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
A Genesis spokesperson showed that lack of interest will lead to the interruption of the manual option for the upcoming G70 2022. Technically, the manual option is still in the menu, but it depends on what is already in the production pipe. We may not know until the G70 2021 starts getting dealerships, but there may not even be one with a manual for sale. This would well mean that the option no longer exists. The chances of locating a 2021 style with a manual will be “very slim,” the spokesman added.
While this is unpleasant news about the manual, the G70 is about to be revised in 2022. We’ll see that the car adopts Genesis’ newest design language, which is bad news, depending on what you think of the new G90s and G80s. It is also expected to get a 2.5-liter turbo-four as a new base engine. The plant continues to tour Hyundai Motor Company, locating a house in the new 2021 Kia K5, as well as other Genesis cars.
