A 20-year-old boy on the island died on Monday after falling off a cliff off the coast of Puna.
Police said officers were called to a man known as “Sand Hill” around 2:45 p. m.
While driving an off-road motorcycle with an organization of friends, police report that Duane Correa crossed a cliff.
This is a video of where Hawaii County firefighters “transported” the guy and pronounced him dead at the scene.
“Probably about 40 meters deep, perhaps 50 feet from the ocean, it landed on the most sensitive rocky platform. A passerby rushed to see what was going on and the floor gave way and the moment the patient fell off that cliff,” the battalion leader said. Matthias Kusch of the Hawaii Fire Department said.
The chimney branch also reports that Correa’s 18-year-old brother Delton flew to Hilo. Il suffered life-threatening injuries while seeking to save his older brother.
Firefighters returned to the site to retrieve Correa’s motorcycle on Monday night.
