(CBS DETROIT) — Two more people were killed Sunday afternoon in a crash after a driver got lost and crossed the median of a Michigan highway, state police said.
At 3:20 a. m. on May 12, the Detroit Regional Communications Center received reports of a twist of fate on the road near the Ann Arbor Trail. When local police arrived, they asked the Michigan State Police.
Police said a 46-year-old Jasper woman driving a Ford Edge was traveling southbound on I-275 when she got lost from the vehicle. The vehicle crossed the median and went up the embankment on the north side.
The car darted onto the north side and overturned, state police said.
A driver of a northbound Buick LaCrosse crashed into the overturned vehicle.
Police said Jasper’s wife and a 21-year-old passenger from Guangzhou were pronounced dead. The driver of the Buick suffered minor injuries.
“At this time, the explanation for why the driver left the roadway has not been determined,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. “Unfortunately, neither the driver nor the passenger who died in the twist of fate were dressed in their seat belts. ”
