Aether Apparel and the company Veldt of high-end motorcycle helmets have teamed up to create a limited series of only thirteen motorcycle helmets, each custom painted through individual artists. But those hand-painted tops don’t just show artistic and artistic skills. Each of the $2,500 helmets is on sale lately, and one hundred percent of the proceeds go to Riders for Health.
Riders for Health is a non-profit organization that is helping to bring desperately needed medical materials into inaccessible spaces in rural Africa. Suvs and 4x4s such as Land Rover Defenders and old Toyota Land Cruisers are known to traverse remote spaces around the world to do precisely that kind of work. However, there are undefeated trails and trails too narrow and full of obstacles, even for the faithful four-wheeled overlanders. That’s where Riders for Health takes over.
Adventure bikes are more manageable and have their heads set in this direction. “When we first heard about Riders for Health, we were impressed by how a motorcycle, where we thought to laugh, can simply be a medical rescue device for rural Africans,” said Palmer, co-founder of Aether West.
Aether not only donates the on-off helmet product to Riders for Health, but also equips Aether’s motorcycle doctors with equipment. “Teaching doctors to ride horses in more than 99% of rural Africa is an astonishing solution to a woefully old problem, and we are revered to be part of the effort,” West said.

As a car enthusiast, I am passionate about everything related to cars and motorcycles, whether old, new or future. At the time of writing, I am one of only two people in the United States who have a master’s degree in automotive journalism from Coventry University in England. In the years after the return to the U.S., I fully immersed myself in the industry and discovered that these are the ever-changing aspects of design and performance, and the surrounding way of life the most exciting thing to write. When I don’t talk about cars and motorcycles, I make the most of them with my own eyes or plan the next adventure with one. Follow us on Instagram @BusinessBryan.
