Is there a better place on Earth than a hot beach in summer? No, there isn’t. As long as the sand is soft, the waves are blue and the atmosphere is intense, the beaches are the closest thing to natural paradise that humanity can reach. It’s no surprise that the beach has long been the setting for all kinds of films, from Sebastián Silva’s indie mystery Rotting in the Sun (2023) to the first film that comes to mind when you think of the beach: Danny Boyle’s The Beach.
Of course, there’s a dark undercurrent to many beach videos, such as a vacation romance that’s about to blow up, or a summer that’s lasted too long, or, in some cases, as you’ll see below, a beach that will make you age. That’s why beach videos are more than dark, bizarre and unexpected, with many twists into nightmarish, even brutal territories. But not always: some of them are just relaxing and fun. Anyway, here are twelve wonderful beach videos, to watch during an endless summer (very different from this year’s).
Old, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, After Earth, Knock at the Cabin), it’s the kind of movie you think is the worst you’ll ever see, at first, until you slowly replace your brain and make a decision is one of the most productive (or at least, That’s what happened to me). This evil-good dichotomy is hilariously reflected in the reviews that followed, which ranged from two to five stars, with no one. agree on whether this silly and silly creation was a natural genius or just a blunder. If you haven’t noticed yet, all you want to know is this: The movie follows an organization of families trapped on a beach who, as they soon discover, push the aging process to continue until suddenly they’re all wrinkled and dying. You can watch Old on Amazon Prime.
Fire Island, a romantic comedy about an organization of queer friends who go on vacation to a true gay hotspot, is a funny, easy-to-digest movie that probably won’t leave you deeply disturbed and/or you won’t want to go on vacation again. (which is not the case for at least two-thirds of the films on this list). The film stars Joel Kim Booster, who also wrote and produced it. There is also a lot of sensuality and nudity; unfortunately, just cigarette butts. “I was like, ‘I need a dick. ‘” This is Fire Island. They are sex scenes. They are. You happen to see dicks,” director Andrew Ahn told Vulture. “They told me again, ‘We’ll give you as much ass as you do. ‘” I need to,” Ahn said. “And I said, ‘You know what? I will settle for this agreement. ‘”You can watch Fire Island on Disney.
Like all wonderful beach movies, director Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool begins as an idyllic vacation, in the same vein as White Lotus, before sinking into what can only be described as sheer madness and unbridled horror. Mia Goth in particular stands out as Gabi, who is the embodiment of the TikTok meme “never let them guess your next move. “Some might argue that Infinity Pool is necessarily a beach movie; After all, much of it takes place in a kind of harsh prison. But to that I say: as long as Como la playa appears several times, it counts as a beach movie! You can watch Infinity Pool on Amazon Prime.
What do you think of when you think of beaches? Sun? Sea?The salty taste of sweat on the shiny bikini bodies?Of course, but many of us also think of sharks, those gigantic killer predators with nibbled teeth and the remarkable taste of blood. The chances of bumping into a shark on the beach are minimal in maximum places, however, Jaws, released in 1975, made us all believe that we were at risk of being torn apart if we got a little further away on the beach. Undoubtedly the most iconic and famous film on this list, this Steven Spielberg crop is one of those rare beach videos that make us want to stay away from the beach. You can watch Jaws on Netflix.
It’s actually disgusting. It’s disgusting that we exist here and now and that we’re not, in fact, California teenagers from the 1970s who just invented ramp skateboarding. Based on the real-life story of the Z-Boys (who were also immortalized in Stacy Peralta’s clever skateboarding documentary). , Dogtown and Z-Boys), Lords of Dogtown by Catherine Hardwicke tells the story of surfers who took their taste for surfing to concrete and have become famous for it. make you need to not only spend a summer at the beach, but also your whole life, man. You can watch Lords of Dogtown on Amazon Prime.
In what is actually one of the most impressive roles Matthew McConaughey has ever done for him, Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum follows Moondog (McConaughey), a faded poet who spends his time smoking weed, hanging around, and living that slow, fast beach lifestyle. Perhaps it is the closest thing to a pure comedy, laughing that Korine has ever had, without shocking or disturbing nuances (although it has its flashes). Perhaps it’s just too funny: After The Beach Bum, Korine fell out of love with regular movies, telling GQ, “I just lost interest in regular movies. “» Don’t let this movie discourage you. It’s like the summer you didn’t have this year. You can watch The Beach Bum on Amazon Prime.
Molly Manning Walker’s acclaimed feature film debut is rarely easy to watch, in part because it’s so realistic. Anyone who grew up in the UK and spent a post-baccalaureate holiday in a position like Malia or Magaluf will recognise constant drinking. , one-component cheesechips, and the general chaos that permeates how to have sex. But again, while there are some funny moments, this isn’t a lighthearted beach movie. The film skillfully explores themes of sexual consent. the fact that sexual assault doesn’t look like what we were raised to believe (a random stranger hiding in the bush) and the confusing emotions that can accompany it. You can watch How to Have Sex on Amazon Prime.
Although it’s not technically a movie (it’s a documentary released in 1966), The Endless Summer is too special not to mention. Filmed on a budget of $50,000, the film follows surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August on a surfing adventure around the world, from New Zealand to Australia, Ghana to South Africa, Tahiti to Hawaii. Basically, the premise is: is it imaginable to have an endless summer? And, if so, what would it be like? According to this film, they would look like bright waves, glowing horizons, and tanned bodies flying across the ocean. You can watch The Endless Summer on Amazon Prime.
Corine, the bubbly cult vintage of 2012’s Harmony, is a quintessential beach movie and so much more. Set primarily in St. Petersburg, Florida, Spring Breakers follows academics Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine) as they attend wild beach parties in neon bikinis and enjoy plenty of sun, sex, drugs, and alcohol. As the film unfolds, its overall slowly sinks into a kind of dizzying, feverish sleep, with a bright, sparkling soundtrack through Skrillex. and Ellie Goulding. The highlight comes with the women performing Britney Spears’ song “Everytime” around a piano, dressed in pink balaclavas and sweatpants while holding guns, and also Hudgens, a former member of High School Musical, uttering the words “Give me your damn money or I’ll shoot a damn brain. “You can watch Spring Breakers on Amazon Prime.
Part Titanic, part Cast Away, part White Lotus, part anything you’ve never noticed before, Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness was undoubtedly one of the smartest, most hilarious, and absurd videos released in 2022. Here’s the premise: A bunch of other wealthy and generally good-looking people embark on what they think is a relaxing luxury cruise. The cruise ship (and I don’t think it ruins too much, as you can see in the caravan) stops abruptly and they are parked on an island. Class no longer makes sense, luxury is no longer available, and hierarchy is reorganized in a way that makes you gasp and laugh. You can watch Triangle of Sadness on Hulu.
There are a few movies and TV shows (Girls, Bodies Bodies, Bottoms) that rely on funny, familiar dialogue, and Sebastián Silva’s Rotting in the Sun is indeed one of them. First of all, if you haven’t noticed this one yet, keep in mind Warning: there are a lot of cocks. Flappy cocks. Tough guys. Cocks that are incidental. It’s a movie that’s essentially about beaches and dicks. But what starts out as a relaxing gay vacation temporarily turns into a murder mystery thriller, one that will feel like those anxiety-inducing nightmares you have when you’ve accidentally killed someone and are desperately looking to erase your tracks (right?Just me?). You can watch Rot in the Sun on Mubi.
You didn’t think we’d combine a list of beach videos without adding the mother of all, The Beach, did you?Based on Alex Garland’s 1996 novel of the same name, The Beach (directed by Danny Boyle) follows the young traveler Richard. (Leonardo Dicaprio) on his escapades through Bangkok, Thailand, before he finally discovers a map of a secret and remote island inhabited by other people who wish to live off the grid, nicknamed “The Beach”. The beach is beautiful: white sand, a crystal clear ocean and young and charming people who live off the land. But what at first turns out to be a paradise, temporarily becomes something much darker, more brutal and nightmarish.
When this film was first released, it garnered even negative reviews and moderate success at the box office. However, in the two decades since, it has become a much-loved time capsule of the time. So much so that the beach on which the film was filmed had to be closed because, despite everything, it had been heavily looted and invaded by tourists. Why we have to mess it up! You can watch The Beach on Amazon Prime.
