Police and other first responders did their best to make the season bright on Wednesday.
It was the occasion of Shopping with a Hero at Walmart in Cadillac. The shop was buzzing with excitement when local schoolchildren had the opportunity to shop with a hero.
Walmart gave one hundred students $100 gift cards so they could buy gifts for the family. Volunteers from across the network took the children to buy groceries to spread the joy of Christmas.
“I was able to go shopping with two other kids today, and it was inspiring the selflessness they have in their hearts to make sure they give their parents and siblings something for Christmas,” said Bob Reddick of the Cadillac Leadership Program.
“My parents don’t even get gifts anymore, and I looked for that to happen,” one student said.
“They spend all their money and faint beyond their time to save money for Christmas for us,” the student said.
Each child also won a turkey and all the ingredients for their festive dinner.
