A man died Saturday south of Willits after his car rolled 30 feet down an embankment in Mendocino County and overturned, the government said.
At approximately 12:40 p. m. m. , the man, whose identity has not yet been released, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Highway 101 when he turned just south of Ridgewood Ranch Road. For some unknown reason, he left the west side of the road and then went over a hill that took him thirty meters toward an embankment, where the car overturned on its roof, Sgt. Matt Werle said Sunday.
The medium-sized vehicle stopped on transient concrete barriers that Caltrans had stored in a dirt location away from the street, Werle said.
The road was slippery from heavy rains and responding CHP officials discovered tire marks on the road.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office will identify the man, who had an Oregon driver’s license and was in his 30s, after being notified by his circle of relatives.
There are no passengers in the Chevrolet.
CHP-Ukiah is investigating the accident. Investigators found no evidence that alcohol was involved.
